Nazi archive footage - WW2 | France Surrenders 1940
World War II in France (Viewer discretion required ) In 1938, France joined Great Britain in an attempt to appease Nazi aggression. France signed the Munich Pact and helped give Germany "permission" to invade the Sudeten territories of Czechoslovakia. It was soon clear that this attempt at appeasement failed. After Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, France declared war. France's war against Germany did not last long. On June 22, 1940, France surrendered to Germany. France was occupied by the Germans until 1944. June 6 of that year was D-Day. A massive Allied force invaded the beaches of Normandy. Through the summer and fall, the Allies pushed eastward through France towards Germany. In August, Allied troops also landed in the South of France. By the end of the war, about 350000 French soldiers had been killed, and almost a half million French civilians had died. www.worldwariihistory.info

Constructing A Photo Darkroom for Arts Center in France (Archive)
Constructing A Photo Darkroom for Arts Center in France (Archive)
Lucas Lai is raising funds through Kickstarter to construct a photo darkroom for La Porte Peinte Arts Center in France. In order to receive contributions, this project must be funded in full by 3/23/12. To help: www.kickstarter.com La Porte Peinte is an international arts center that is host to all kinds of creative people: composers, photographers, dancers, sculptors, painters, from around the world. The darkroom we are raising funds to construct will be available to those who do a residency here or participate in a workshop. Eventually the center will also rent the darkroom out to those who already know how to do black and white printing and just need the space to be creative. With your help, the darkroom and processing lab should be finished in May 2012. From Lucas: La Porte Peinte Centre Pour Les Arts is a wonderful international arts center located in an enchanted medieval village just 2 hours by train from Paris. There stands in the village a house that once belonged to family of Henri Cartier-Bresson (one of the masters of photography), and the surrounding countryside is incredibly inspiring and vibrant creative energy abounds. Burgundy is the birthplace of photography, and it is only fitting to continue its legacy today in the region, within easy access to Paris, one of the world's major art capitals. The funds raised are being used to pay for the renovation of 2 spaces within the art center, one to house the darkroom, the other an alternative process and negative ...

Du Caire aux Pyramides (Pathé, France, 1905, From Cairo to the Pyramids)
Pathé's 'Du Caire aux Pyramides' showcases the traditional sites visited by travellers on Cook's Tours and in Baedeker guidebook trails. This proto-travelogue perpetuates the 19th-century view of Egypt as a theme park for Western tourists, the local people playing only a supporting role in the traveller's experience of this ancient land. Views include the bridge of Kassir-el-Nil, the Sphinx, the Giza pyramids approached by train, and the Nile. Les Fleurs Animées (Pathé, France, 1906, Living Flowers)
Gaston Velle's 'Les Fleurs Animées' was screened by the Australian-based Corrick Family Entertainers as part of their variety act. In their advertising the Corricks described the detailed, hand-coloured production as 'The finest "Color" Film of the Twentieth Century'. Simple camera tricks create a magic fairy story in this tale of angry flowers exacting revenge on a man who has wantonly destroyed their garden. While the stage-like setting draws from centuries of tradition, the effects presented on this 'stage' could only be achieved through a mastery of that newest of technologies, the motion picture. The War File: Tanks! The Fall of France
The War File: Tanks! The Fall of France
Purchase DVD: www.allegro-music.com Armored forces played a critical role in the German invasion of France in the spring of 1940. The attack of German panzer divisions through what the French believed to be the impenetrable Ardennes forest effectively outflanked British and French forces in France and Belgium. The Allies were forced to retreat in disarray toward the channel ports, which led to the collapse of French resistance. In this program we look at the role of armored forces on both sides in the dramatic battles that led to the stunning German victory. Features rare archive footage, stunning 3-D animation, and a detailed examination of the machines by David Fletcher of the Royal Armored Corps Tank Museum at Bovington as well as writer and historian Bob Carruthers. NTSC, B&W and Color, Dolby Digital Stereo, Menu Language English, Full Screen 4:3.
